Ecclesiastes 11:1
Solomon in all his wisdom reflected upon his life and saw everything on earth as meaningless. Ecclesiastes 1:2 (NIV) If we agree with Solomon, it may leave us with a dismal spirit if we don’t look beyond this reflection. Instead let’s look at the eternal view and allow this proclamation to guide how we live.
The 1st verse of the 11th chapter in Ecclesiastes instructs us to throw seeds into the unknown and allow God and time to work in ways only HE is able.
God has taught me to be generous and He has used the generosity of my husband, Jay, who gives without hesitation, as the lesson. For decades it slightly bothered me just how generous he was. Through circumstances God ever so gently showed me my heart was wrong whenever I witnessed Jay’s generosity. I have learned generosity is a matter of obedience not just a nice thing to do and the condition of our giving hearts matters! When I realized a generous heart is a form of worship my giving changed.
God often leads us with nudging and at that crossroad, with seed in hand, we choose to cast or hold on. Sometimes we hold on unintentionally and the seed falls from our hands, maybe because we have so many other things grabbing our attention. When we cast the seed it is then we need to stand on TRUSTING God with faith and enthusiasm and experience wonderful peace in obeying.
Where may God be asking you to cast some seed today?
Oh, Lord, give us eyes to see the seed in our hands, wisdom to know where to cast then walk with you daily that we don’t miss the opportunity. Amen
